When you’re serious about towing, you turn to the GMC brand. Not only does it offer a lineup of powerful SUVs and trucks, but vehicles are also sophisticated, too. If you’re in the market for a pickup truck, here’s what you can tow with a GMC Sierra 1500.
Depending on which Sierra 1500 model you choose and which engine is under the hood, that determines how much you can tow. At the low end of the spectrum, when equipped with the 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6, you’ll be able to tow up to 7,600 pounds, that should be plenty for most boats, and would even be enough for a camper or snowmobile trailer.
When equipped with the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8, drivers will be able to handle up to 9,400 pounds of towing weight—enough for a larger boat, camper, or small horse trailer. The 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 gives just a little more power with a tow rating of 9,800 pounds.
With the Max Trailering Package added to your Sierra 1500, this bumps the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 up to 11,100 pounds and the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 up to 12,000 pounds. With those capabilities, you can bring along your Boston Whaler boat, four Harley Davidson motorcycles, or two Polaris off-road vehicles.
