Most Popular Car Brand in Ideal Vehicle Awards

Ideal Vehicle AwardsFor the third year in a row, GMC has been named the most popular car brand in AutoPacific’s 2016 Ideal Vehicle Awards. In addition, GMC was one of only two automakers with three models that led their respective segments.

Winning the Large Crossover SUV segment was the GMC Acadia. The Yukon/Yukon XL was ranked first in the Large SUV segment and the GMC Sierra led the Light Duty Pickup category for the second consecutive year.

The 2016 Ideal Vehicle Awards poll 65,000 owners of new 2015 and 2016 model year vehicles. After 90 days of ownership, the customers responded to the survey with any changes they would make to their car or truck. The surveyed covered a wide range of areas, including storage, safety features, handling, technology, and power.

“By asking vehicle owners if they would change various aspects of their vehicle if given the opportunity, we not only identify problem areas and opportunities for improvement, but we also find out which manufacturers are truly hitting the mark with owners,” said George Peterson, president of AutoPacific.

What Can You Tow with a GMC Sierra 1500?

GMC Sierra 1500When you’re serious about towing, you turn to the GMC brand. Not only does it offer a lineup of powerful SUVs and trucks, but vehicles are also sophisticated, too. If you’re in the market for a pickup truck, here’s what you can tow with a GMC Sierra 1500.

Depending on which Sierra 1500 model you choose and which engine is under the hood, that determines how much you can tow. At the low end of the spectrum, when equipped with the 4.3-liter EcoTec3 V6, you’ll be able to tow up to 7,600 pounds, that should be plenty for most boats, and would even be enough for a camper or snowmobile trailer.

When equipped with the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8, drivers will be able to handle up to 9,400 pounds of towing weight—enough for a larger boat, camper, or small horse trailer. The 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 gives just a little more power with a tow rating of 9,800 pounds.

With the Max Trailering Package added to your Sierra 1500, this bumps the 5.3-liter EcoTec3 V8 up to 11,100 pounds and the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 up to 12,000 pounds. With those capabilities, you can bring along your Boston Whaler boat, four Harley Davidson motorcycles, or two Polaris off-road vehicles.
